White dental fillings & composite resin restoration

Restore your smile with natural-looking dental fillings

If you’re looking for a natural, discreet and long-lasting solution for cavities, our experienced dentists offer white composite fillings that blend seamlessly with your natural teeth. Made from high-quality composite resin, they provide both strength and aesthetics, making them ideal for visible areas of your smile.

While we focus on preventative care, cavities can still occur even with excellent oral hygiene. When they do, white fillings offer a safe and effective way to restore the function and appearance of your teeth. They can also be used to repair small chips or cracks, often completed in a single visit.

At Noosa Family Dental, we’re proud to be an amalgam-free practice. Our goal is to restore your teeth safely, comfortably, and beautifully so you can smile with confidence again.

What you need to know about white dental fillings

A modern alternative to amalgam dental fillings

Tooth decay is one of the most common oral health concerns worldwide. While several methods can be used to restore decayed or damaged teeth, white dental fillings are a preferred choice for patients seeking a strong, natural-looking result.

Composite dental restorations are a sculpted tooth-coloured resin that blends seamlessly with the colour, shape, and shine of your natural teeth. The procedure is simple, minimally invasive, and designed to restore your tooth’s natural structure while helping to prevent cracks and further damage.

White fillings can also be used to:

  • Improve the shape, size, or overall appearance of teeth

  • Cover stains or discolouration

  • Close small gaps between teeth

  • Create a straighter, more even smile

  • Repair chips or fractures

  • Restore areas affected by decay

Benefits of tooth restoration with white fillings

How white dental fillings can improve your smile

For those looking to restore their teeth, white tooth fillings offer a number of benefits including:

Conservation of natural tooth: Tooth-coloured fillings require less of your precious tooth to be removed. They are bonded to the tooth structure to support and reinforce the tooth.

Natural appearance: They look great! There have been incredible advancements in resin technology over the past 20 years. We now have excellent shade selection and colour stability.

Strong: These materials, if designed correctly, can rival porcelain longevity. They are strong enough to protect back teeth and restore front teeth.

Quick: Composite resin is placed on the spot, there is no need for multiple appointments.

Repairable: Unlike porcelain, the resin can often be repaired if there is local degradation. This is a cost-effective strategy to keep your smile sparkling for years to come!

What to expect during your dental filling procedure

Tooth restoration experts

At Noosa Family Dental, we know that the thought of getting a filling can be stressful to some. That is why we take the time to explain the entire process to our patients before we begin. This way, you will know exactly what to expect during your filling procedure.

After your consultation and initial appointment, our dentists will need to prepare the surface of the tooth. Here it is thoroughly cleaned, any decay removed and tooth preparation liquids are applied. We will then use a composite filling to restore the tooth. The filling will be moulded and built up so the hole is filled and accurately matches the shape of your tooth.

After the filling is complete, your mouth will most likely be a numb and sensitive for the next several hours. It is recommended that you avoid hot or cold foods and drinks as well as chewing gum during this time. If you have any other questions about white fillings, get in touch with us today!

White dental filling FAQs

Learn about tooth restoration & white fillings

What is the difference between white dental fillings and traditional fillings?

The main differences between white dental fillings and traditional metal fillings are the material they are made of and their appearance. White dental fillings are made of composite resin and are designed to match the color of your natural teeth, while traditional metal fillings are made of metal (such as silver, gold, or amalgam). White dental fillings are also more aesthetically pleasing and can be used to fill cavities in visible areas of the mouth, while traditional metal fillings may be more noticeable and damagind to the tooth.

How long does a white dental filling last?

White dental fillings can last for several years with proper care, but they may need to be replaced eventually. The lifespan of a white dental filling will depend on factors such as the size of the filling, the location of the filling, and the patient’s bite and oral hygiene habits.

Are white dental fillings safe?

White dental fillings are made of composite resin, which is a safe and biocompatible material. They have been used in dentistry for many years and have an excellent track record of safety and effectiveness.

Will white dental fillings require special care?

White dental fillings do not require any special care beyond what is needed for your natural teeth. It is important to brush and floss regularly and visit your dentist at Noosa Family Dental for regular checkups and cleans to ensure the longevity of your white dental fillings.

Will my filling get stained?

Fillings may get stained when exposed to substances like coffee, red wine, black tea or tobacco. Ceramic fillings are resistant to stains. However, with proper care and oral hygiene and the occasional polish at your dental checkup appointment,  this can be managed and corrected.

My cavity doesn’t hurt. Do I need a filling?

Cavities usually don’t cause pain until they are quite serious, which is why it’s important to visit your dentist regularly. If a cavity is caught early, it can be treated with a simple filling. However, if it’s left untreated, it can become larger and cause more extensive damage, leading to more expenspensive treatment and potential tooth loss.
